The 2018 North East Tamchon Football Tournament to kick off from 6th October
The 2018 edition of the North East Tamchon Football Tournament and like every year a total of 16 North East teams from the North East Community get to participate in the tournament. The 16 teams will be divided into four groups and each group will have four teams. The opening match will be played on 6th October between defending champions Hornbill United and Indian Air Force at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi.
This season participating teams are Hornbill United FC, Indian Air Force, Chandel FC Kapaam, BODO FC, Zeliangrong FC, Garo Warriors FC, Valor FC, Ukhrul FC, Hmar FC, Senapati Red Star FC, Gorkha United FC, Zogene FC, Muvanlai Athletics, SSPP FC, KSL, Sikkim FC
From the Group stage top, two teams from each group will qualify to play the knock out stage in the next round. The tournament will last for 15 days and the final will be played on 20th October 2018.
An event is an annual event that is Community-based and restricted to the communities of the North East only. Initiated with the dual aim of promoting the latent talents of the youth of the region in sports and thereby fostering “Unity, Friendship, Understandings and Sportsmanship” within the northeast community.
The mega football event also serves as the hunting ground for football scouts as northeast is always considered as the breeding ground for football players in India.
The event is supported by NE Council, Ministry of Development Of North Eastern Region, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and other private organization.
