United Brother- A new beginning

North East India is full of football enthusiasts, fans and people who love the most beautiful game. United Brother FC is one such club that has united all these football fanatics.

United Brothers football club is an outcome of such love for the game from the district of Kalimpong in West Bengal. The club was established in 2016 with the objective of keeping football alive in the region which otherwise is in its downfall.

Speaking to Goalie365 Club President Barden Lepcha explained how football culture in the hills especially Kalimpong and Darjeeling is dying and with United Brother his team hopes of keeping it alive.

"The club is a product of likeminded people who loves football and wants to bring out and promote players from this part of India. We are a bunch of young boys who played football but due to lack of adequate opportunities ended up playing just locally," he highlighted.

"The Indian football scenario is changing and future is bright for players who are hardworking and dedicated. We at United Brothers want to bring the change in here at Kalimpong too. We aim to promote our local players, added Barden.

United Brothers as a club runs with the contribution made by each individual member and supported by Kalimpong Veterans club at times; however, they are yet to get a regular or major sponsor.

United Brothers since its inception has participated in most of the major tournaments in the region and has garnered much respect as a team. Apart from winning local tournaments United Brothers finished runners-up in the 2nd edition of Mahindra Karki Memorial Invitational football tournament (2017) in Gangtok, and have been impressive in the Milan More Gold Cup, Sukuna Gold Cup and prestigious Kurseong Saheed Gold Cup. United Brothers latest achievement is the championship win at Mainaguri Gold Cup last Sunday.

The team is coached by Prashant Pradhan, a young coach from Scottish University Mission Institution.

Players like Dewasis Rai, Sonam Lepcha are most short after players of the club and often hired by clubs around the region. Dewasis was the highest scorer in the first edition of Siliguri Premier League while Sonam Lepcha have led many other teams in the region.

Club secretary Shiva Tamang said," we are working hard to bring football glory back in the hills. Our boys are dedicated and hardworking and we will soon apply for a formal registration so we can get some government aid for our development."

The three days AIFF Grassroot leaders coach coaching classes organized by West Bengal District Sports Association and SMKP ended today at Kanchenjunga stadium. Overwhelming 100 boys under the age category of 6-12 years participated along with 26 number of coaches from the Siliguri and Jalpaiguri region in the three-day programme. Mr. Sailesh Karkare from AIFF was the key instructor along with SMKP officials.

2018 Shillong Premier League: Sawmer 1-0 Meghalaya Police. Sawmer secured a narrow 1-0 win over Meghalaya Police in the ongoing Shillong Premier League 2018 at the SSA Stadium on Monday evening. After a four straight draw in the second phase of the league crowned expected the end of the resultless progress of the league.  Although deadlock reigned for 99% of the match, and it looked like we would have our fifth straight draw, Gamelial Kharlyngdoh put the ball into the net in the second minute of stoppage time (90+2) to earn Sawmer their first full points in the SPL.
